Subject: $230 Million worth of dormant Holocaust victims bank accounts in Israel

Dear Genners:

Due to the vast amounts of emails I got on this topic in response to
my 1/20/05 and 1/19/05 letters to this forum, I would like to clarify
some FAQ's for the benefit of all:
1.The lists contain 9,000 names of dormant accounts owners with Jewish
sounding names who deposited cash amounts in bank accounts and Safe
Deposit Boxes in 5 banks in 1920's and 1930's in then British
Palestine Eretz Israel. It is assumed that most all those persons were
exterminated in the Holocaust
2.The $ amount of those accounts (in 2004 figures) amounts to US$230
Millions.
2.Most deposits where made in the branches of those banks in Europe;
I.E.: in Poland, Germany, Lithonia, USSR (including Belarus and the
Ukraine), Rumania, Hungary, Greece, Italy, France, Holland, Belgium
and more.
3.the direct link to the Excel type English and Hebrew lists is to be
found in the official English Language Knesset Web site. Just click:
http://www.knesset.gov.il/committees/eng/docs/shoa_finalreport_eng.htm
and check the 9,000 persons lists divided between 5 Israeli Banks.
If you find a familiar name of an account or box owner/s, you will need to hire an Israeli lawyer who specializes in this area.

4. Since I gave testimonial in this Knesset Committee, in name of
inheritors of such property, I know first hand, about the difficulties
staged by those Israeli banks and the Ministry of Justice Administrator responsible for those accounts and for unclaimed Real Property.
The banks and the administrator are the real obstacle for claimers of
this property.
Usually, Court legal proceeding are needed to reclaim such property,
unless a person holds crystal clear evidence of his connection to the
person on the lists.
5.The Knesset Committee that worked for the last 5 years, produced only
the Bank accounts Lists. For lack of sources this Committee did not
touch on the issue of Holocaust victims who owned Real Estate Property
in Israel.
It is estimated the figure for the victims Real Property assets in
Israel is much much higher then the dormant accounts figure.
One needs Court legal proceedings in order to reclaim such Real Property.

6.The Committee decided that amounts not reclaimed within a reasonable
time frame, will go to "the general welfare of Shoah survivors in Israel".
It was estimated that most of the US$230 Millions funds will not be reclaimed.
Thus, anybody who does find a familiar name on the lists should act promptly.

Good luck.

Meir Garbarz Gover, Esq.

Dear Mary,

I would be grateful for the original version of [Czajka's] the poem as well as for all the available information on Izabela Gelbard's life. About fall 2004 we are going to run our local newspaper, which we want to contain also the history of the Zgierz Jews. It would be wonderful if we could in the first issue gather the story of the Szwarc family, as one of the most important, including Czajka's life and work. We do not have any images neither of people nor of places, so we would be happy if it would be possible for you to provide us some, for publication purposes. We need a permit from you in order to write about your family and publish some pictures. We also will send all the text to you to get your acceptance. So, we want to write on all the influential Jewish families of Zgierz, and we will ask you for all the possible help and assistance during this work. The exact addresses (street name, house number) of the places connected to your family's history are of major importance for us.

Regards,
