Comments: Recently my husband (and son) found out that they are direct descendants of a member of this regiment. His name was Valentine B. Smith, who joined in 1861. He was listed as a prisoner of war in St. Louis in May of 1864. Can you provide me with any additional information that might explain how he came to be in St Louis and where he served? He was also in the Mexican American War.

Comments: I volunteer at Dallas Heritage Village. I have met various members of your group at the village. I'm a member of CWCT Living History Society. We are a civilian group which portrays the Civil War Era. We usually have two reenactments yearly, March and Oct near Grandview, TX. This Oct, instead of a reenactment, we are having a camp-out/retreat for re-enactors. In hopes it will give re-enactors from the different units a chance to get together, get to know one another and have some fun. We will offer classes relating to the period,games for the children and a dance Sat night. There will be several acres available for the men to drill, or have a battle and also a replica frontier town, great for town fighting. Plenty of camping space. I would like to invite your members to come join us. This will be a 3 day event, Fri Oct 10th - Sun Oct 12th. Fri being school day. If you would like more info, please send me an email.
